Lameness

Equine Lameness

Several common causes of equine lameness includes:

  • Founder / Laminitis

  • Trauma

  • Infectious (hoof abscess, joint infection, etc)

  • Osteoarthritis / Degenerative Joint Disease

  • Development diseases (osteochondrosis, physitis, contracted flexor tendons)

Evaluation for lameness starts with a lameness examination of your horse, identifying where the pain is coming from specifically, possibly taking radiographs to evaluate the bones themselves, and then deciding the best treatment options for you and your horse.
